Community participation in Fire Prevention

The CRR-FPA would be powerless if the management, appointed by the members, is not helped by the members themselves. The large area that the CRR-FPA “controls” is split in a number of small areas where a member, appointed as CRR FPA UNIT MANAGER by the members, drives the CRR FPA’s objectives.

National Veld and Forest Fire Act

The National Veld & Forest Fires Act of 1998 promotes the formation of Fire Protection Associations (FPA)Membership confers the benefit that if fire spreads from a member’s property there is not an automatic presumption of negligence, as is the case of non-members. A local FPA facilitates cooperation between neighbours on common fire management issues and sets minimum standards of fire protection specific to the area. See full details of the Crocodile River Reserve Fire Protection Association that was formed in 2008.  If you live in the area BE A MEMBER.

Fire Protection  Association

The CRR FPA is there to inform, prevent and ultimately fight fires that incidentally happen and spread. Formed under the auspices of the 1998 act 101, our association is committed to preventing wildfires by means of managing the risk through Fire Management Plans, training and community participation.

Community Fire Prevention

We engage with the community to raise awareness and promote fire prevention measures.

Together we are BETTER

We are all directly influenced by the annual fire season weather we elect to participate or not. Therefore the NVFFA requires all landowners to comply with the ACT. As members of the FPA and our community, we work together to make our area as safe as we possibly can

Community Based

Our association works best when we are all working together. Each area is unique and for that reason we appoint an Area Representative to work with the Committee to manage our annual Fire Protection Plan in every area.

FPA WhatsApp Group

The CRRFPA has a community of WhatsApp groups. There is a General fires group where all fires and related information is shared by everyone. Then each area has their own group where they manage the fire matters of their own area.

Advantages of membership

Every landowner or occupier has to comply with all the regulations of the NVFFA no 101 of 1998. This means that all boundaries of every property must have a fire break that complies with the rules of the local FPA. However, if you are a member of the CRRFPA you will participate in the development and implementation of the annual Fire Management Plan. owners can then be exempt from certain rules as the fire plan will be structured to provide the best possible fire breaks for the area.

NVFFA documents and rules

The ACT it self and many other document related to the ACT can be found under the "Documents" menu option at the top of this page.

Please note that the CRRFPA has a General Rules document that summarize our response to the ACT.

Membership

Membership is not compulsory but it is the right thing to do. The fees per year is only R200 per property. Membership gives you the right to participate in the Fire Management Plans for your area. This will also give you the opportunity to vote for the candidate of your choice for the position of Area Representative.
