National Veld and Forest Fire Act
Our Fire Protection Association operates within the framework of the
National Veld and Forest Fire Act 101 of 1998. The ACT itself and many other documents related to the ACT can
be found under the "Documents" menu option at the top of this page.
Please note that the CRRFPA has a General Rules document that
summarize our response to the ACT.
The FPA and the community
It is the duty of the FPA to inform, enable and assist all community members to be compliant with the NVFFA 101 of 1998. This means everything we do is designed to fulfil this duty. The main purpose of the permit system is to assist us all to be compliant when we burn anything. The moment you light a fire for whatever reason, you are at risk of breaking the law, either accidentally of deliberately. We strive to be a well organized and fully compliant community
Advantages of becoming a member
Every landowner or occupier has to comply with all the regulations of the NVFFA no 101 of 1998. This means that all boundaries of every property must have a fire break that complies with the rules of the local FPA. However, if you are a member of the CRRFPA you will participate in the development and implementation of the annual Fire Management Plan. Members can then be exempt from certain rules as the fire plan will be structured to provide the best possible fire breaks for the area.
